About the Author
Hi. I’m Carol Barnier, creator of the Sizzle Bop Blog, an extension of a website I created in 2004. My goal was to create a place where kids like my son– ADHD, constantly moving, full of life, exhausting, delightful, and loved fiercely– would be celebrated and encouraged. (To find out why I chose this very odd name, take a look at the first entry in the archives of this blog. It’s explained there. It will also explain why, from here on out, you’ll see that we refer to these kids as Sizzlers).
This blog is an extension of that initial website. Life with a high energy child will always give one writing material. The general sentiment in our house is, if it’s good, it’s good. If it’s bad…it’s material. I have been happily writing and sharing my thoughts for years with folks who signed on to receive my regularly commentary (okay, make that irregular commentary. But I’ve added fiber to my diet and I intend to improve). And I will now being sharing them here as well.
I write sometimes from the perspective of being the doting parent of abovesaid highly-strung very distractible child, but just as often, I write from the perspective of being a highly-strung very distractible person myself. (Yes…I have finally embraced my inner Lucy Ricardo). In fact, while we’re embracing, the final count in this family brings us to four–count them…FOUR highly distractible ADHD people. Only one family member has been spared, and her neuro-typical ways in the face of such frenzy has led us to consider therapy.
Over the years at Sizzle Bop we’ve covered many aspects of life with these great kids…from better teaching methods, to catching missed social cues, to sibling tension, even to what type of car is better for an ADHD driver. There’s always been something to talk about. Many members of our website have asked us to create a blog so that they can more easily share them, AND so that they would be archived somewhere for easier retrieval.
Thus…the Sizzle Bop Blog has now launched.
