As a recently retired teacher Ive seen the refried beans and molasses served every day in our public schools; even by the so-called special ed teachers! And it is not working; not even a little bit. I wish I could get this into the hands of every teacher out there!!! (past few years have worked eith home schoolers and each time come away thinking "this is the way it is supposed to be!) I heard you speak at a NICHE conference in Des Moines...went to every one of your sessions and came away with so many notes...have used and suggested many...GOOD STUFF...BETTER THAN REFRIED BEANS AND MOLASSES FOR SURE!

I will try this! This is a huge clue for me. One that I did not even think about. My daughter's mom is very very very talkative. I think it dampens her resolve to learn, and she might even think she cannot catch up to me, so why even try. I need to slow down with her, not speed up! Give her time. Be quiet!! Thanks for the tip.

My husband just told me this yesterday. I sat there listening (sort of, I guess) to my 5 yo son at the supper table, and he would start with "Mom,..," then he would start over again with "Mom,...,"adding another word, then again and again. He did this FIVE times.

I had not realized what I was doing when I was telling him to just tell me and that there was no need to keep starting from the beginning again each time. I kept interrupting him after the first couple of times, which did not help him.

Of course, I was somewhat offended, but understood. I will have to tell him that you second his comments to me. If he had not mentioned it in the first place, I wonder what kind of damage I'd have started and how it might affect the schooling and communication down the road.

I will have to remember that at times, he will have a slow download...and that is EXACTLY what it seemed like, a download restart...only they usually don't say "Mom" so often. lol

Cheers (with herbal tea) on these wonderful reminders. Just tonight I had that same vein of thought for my daughter. As I was tempted to feel exhausted and annoyed for the tenth request for her to dial down that day (with some very necessary corrective directions-let's not talk about what time of day number ten occurs- it varies), I was struck by how she challenges me to dream bigger and expect more (good)...How I limit God often (and my child) by my own intense expectations (in reverse of grandeur- self preservation based) She spurs me on to believe there are things I've yet to do or think or experience that can't be overlooked nor be allowed to be replaced by anything else. She urges me to reconsider my apathy and we grow more zesty (when did zeal for His house stop consuming me?) together- her more wise and mature, and me, more child-like. Putting away childish things? of course... having the fellowship intended and doing it meaningfully -to stay true to the God of big dreams. Blessings on you and yours from somebody who needed this tonight. Chaos subdued, and me on my way to respite- in my dreams !! May they be of my daughter and me dancing in fields-(actually on horseback if she had any say) with our Father God. Tanis M.

Tyna-you made me laugh out loud! Do you know how Jewish men used to pray that prayer, thanking God each day that they had not been born a woman? I'm thinking we need a new one for folks. . .thanking God that they weren't born into Carol's family. I wouldn't trade this bunch for anything, but I'm certain that we would overwhelm most folks. :-) Thanks for checking in!
